What do you have planned for the summer mo?

Shoot Low Sheriff responded on 03/20/2011
A

We're still lining up shows. We'll post them to the calendar on our Website and will send out emails as we get closer.
One show we're really looking forward to is June 24th--we're playing a civic concert in Burleson. It should be a great show. We'll send details once we get closer to that date.

Thanks!

Q

Eric,

I know that your wrote songs when you were with the "Gypsies", and you also told me that you do not read music. I have a problem reconciling the dicotomy. How do you do it?

Shoot Low Sheriff responded on 03/20/2011

Thanks for your question. At least to me, the ability to read music isn't a requirement for writing songs. Anyone can write a song. Just make up a melody in your head and put some words to it. It does help to know a little bit of music theory--what chords work in a given key, etc. But even that doesn't require reading music.
Even when I played trombone in high school, I couldn't read very well--just enough to know what notes to play. I relied on my ear to know how the phrasing went.

Wow, I wasn't even aware of that place. We'd love to play there. Do they get pretty good crowds at their fish fries? Thanks!

I was at the Django Reinhardt Festival in Fort Worth this past weekend and saw/heard some great musicians. It reminded me somewhat of your "Texas Gypsy" days Do you go out to see other musicians?

Yeah, I was there Sunday night to see String Theory Manouche. They were great. I do try to get out and support other musicians when I can. Thanks.

Q

I saw an online story in the Observer from Jan 5. This looks like the old gang reconstituted and is great news. Here's hoping there are club dates lined up for 2011. I WILL help spread the word.

I couldn't agree more! Thanks!

Q

A large majority of guitar players (including me) do not routinely read music. Do you, or your band members read music?

Good question. I don't think any of us read music. We're all self-taught. I wish I could read music. It's a great skill to have. I played trombone in high school and I could read a little bit, but I've forgotten it all now.
Thanks for your question.
