Q

Do you ever use the Django-style guitar with the SLS group?

Shoot Low Sheriff responded on 12/08/2010
A

No, I never use that guitar any more. I've just been using my 2 vintage arch tops--they seem more fitting for Western Swing. The Django guitar is perfect for Gypsy jazz, though. It's served me well for many years.

Thanks. See you soon.

Q

Erik,

1. Is the band your full-time profession, or do you do something in addition?

2. What guitar were you using at the Fair? It had that art-deco look.

Hi Donald. Thanks for your questions.
Actually, my full-time job is being a swimsuit model.

Just kidding. :^) By day I'm an underworked and overpaid art director. I'd rather be making music full time, but at least my day job allows me to be creative and it pays the bills.

The guitar I was playing at the Fair is a 1942 Epiphone triumph. I got it within the past year and I really love it. It has great archtop tone and it's loud. Plus, it looks cool. Come up and check it out at a gig sometime.

Thanks again. See you soon.

Q

You guys are great. I have a song suggestion that would be AWESOME for you guys:
Buck Woods' version of "Is you Is or Is you Ain't My Baby" as seen in Tom and Jerry.

Shoot Low Sheriff responded on 10/26/2010
A

Excellent suggestion. Actually, we've already worked that song up. Request it at one of our shows and we'll play it for you.
Thanks!

Q

Did you leave the Texas Gypsies? Where can we hear Eric perform?

Shoot Low Sheriff responded on 10/23/2010
A

Yes, I'm no longer with the Texas Gypsies. I'm focusing full time on my new band, Shoot Low Sheriff. Our next show id Sunday, Oct. 24 at the Huffhines Art Trails festival in Richardson. We play from 1:10 to 2:40. www.huffhinesarttrails.com
Our calendar is on our Web site at www.ShootLowSheriff.com
Hope to see you soon!

Q

I really enjoyed you as part of the TX Gypsies because it had some of that Django sound. Is that sound part of the past? Where did you come up with the band's name?

Shoot Low Sheriff responded on 10/22/2010
A

Thanks. Being in the Texas Gypsies was a lot of fun. Shoot Low Sheriff does focus more on Western Swing than Gypsy Jazz, but now that we have Jessica playing lead guitar with us, we're working up songs and arrangements that feature the same kind of guitar/violin interplay as we had in the Gypsies. We're also planning to do some shows with a stripped down, more acoustic version of the band. Stay tuned to our Web site for more details.
Our name comes from something Bob Wills used to say, "Shoot Low Sheriff, They're Riding Shetlands".

See you soon.

Q

I've never seen a female lead guitar player in a band, and I was surprised when I saw yours at the Fair. She's pretty good, and she smiles all of the time. Has she played in other bands before?

Shoot Low Sheriff responded on 10/20/2010
A

Yeah, Jessica's great. She LOVES to play guitar and she's really good at it. We're lucky to have her in the band. She's played with blues bands before, but I think we're her first swing band.

See you soon.

Erik

Q

Do you perform in the Dallas area often?

Shoot Low Sheriff responded on 10/15/2010
A

Q

PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHERE YOU ARE BOOKED ON NOVEMBER 12-14TH & 19TH-21ST....

Shoot Low Sheriff responded on 10/15/2010
A

Hi. We're playing twice on November 13. At 1pm we're playing at the Chupacabra's Hot Rod show at the Fair Grounds in Denton. It's an outdoor sow and is a lot of fun. If you like old cars and trucks, it's the place to be. We're just playing for an hour and there are other bands as well.
That night we're playing a benefit concert for lung cancer research at the Sons of Hermann Hall in Dallas. Again there will be several bands. We play from 7-8pm. We don't have anything booked for the 19th-21st. Thanks.
